Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, also known as Ashanti, was born on 13 October, 1980 at Glen Cove New York United States. She is a musician, singer and actor of her native United States. Ashanti began her career in the teen years, and was eventually signed to Murder Inc. Records by 2002. Ashanti was featured as Fat Joe's What's Luv? The singer also featured in Fat Joe's track"What's Luv!" as well as the Ja Rules' track Never On Time and Ja Rules track Always On Time, both of which became huge hit songs. Her songs Foolish (number 1) and What's Luv! It was the first female artist to have both the highest two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in America With Foolish as number one, and then What's Love? We can celebrate this special day by celebrating it together. Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, popularly referred to as Ashanti was born in Glen Cove New York on October 13, 1980. Tina Douglas' mother was a dance instructor and Ken-Kaide Douglas, who was the parent of Ashanti Douglas was a vocalist. Kenashia Shai Douglas is her sister. She is the oldest. Douglas chose the name Ashanti Shia Douglas after the Ashanti Empire from Ghana where women ruled the roost and were highly influential. Douglas wanted Ashantis to adopt this model. James was her grandfather. He worked as an activist for civil rights along with Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960s. The mother of Ashanti's discovered her daughter's talents as she listened to her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti was a child actor for Spike Lee's Malcolm X and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? Also, she had cameos in music videos including K.R.S.-Act One's MC's Don't Know and the 8-Off's Ghetto Girl. Ashanti was sought out and signed by several record labels, including Bad Boy. She also featured in several cameos on music videos. Despite not receiving any big breaks however, she continued to play throughout New York. Ashanti initially appeared in the role of background vocalist in the music video of Big Pun on the song "How We Roll". She also appeared on the single by Fat Joe, What's Luv? Ja Rule's "Always on Time" as well as Fat Joe's What's Luv! The sample used in the debut single Foolish comes from DeBarge's Stay with Me, a 1983 track.
